There really are no "symbols" to add. Aside from the fact that the symbols are made up of straight lines, the symbols have to stretch, so the macros are the perfect (and only) way to get what one wants. For users of the MathTime fonts, all that might be wanted, and which can easily be supp...

Re: MTPro2 fonts wider than AMS and mathptmx fonts

[A MTPro2 user wrote:] After comparing MTPro2 Lite with some other fonts, we found that the math equations using MTPro2 Lite are not as compact as the default fonts of AMSLaTeX and the mathptmx fonts. In most cases the equations' length using MTpro2 is longer than using mathptmx or AMSLaTeX. For ex...

Re: No AFM files?

A MTPro2 user writes: Is there a certain reason why no afm files are in the MTPro2 distribution? Is there some reason you would want them? The kerning of the fonts (and there is lots!) was done after the fonts were constructed and it would take an enormous amount of work to record that in the afm f...

Basically, I want to reiterate the remark I made in the last post to the "firstimpressions" posting by stubner. If you start looking carefully at any mathematical typesetting (as opposed to just reading it) you will find thousands of non-optimal things. Some of these are actually due to th...

Re: spacing

Hello, what do you think about the following, is it worth to introduce kerning pairs with the comma? \[\phi_{N,n}\] Best, Michael This again is not a font question, but a TeX question. A comma in math mode is a "punctuation" (see The TeXBook, pg.154), and the spacing before an ordinary sy...

Re: first impressions

Hello, In expressions like $-i\omega t$, $e^{i H_{0}t}$, $e^{-i H_{0}t}$ the distance behind the 'i' is a bit large IMO. ralf I'm sending you a new tfm file; see if it helps! I'm sorry for the late reply. Only this evening I have found time to test this TFM file (and version 0.991). The good news f...

I suspect that this is a problem with MikTeX; the character in question has two points that are extremely close together, and possibly this creates some problems. I have emailed you a new version where those pairs are simply replaced by a single point. See if it helps.

Re: \bulletdashcirc and \circdashbullet

Hi, the new symbols \bulletdashcirc and \circdashbullet are too long, in addition the dash penetrates the inside of the circle. I'd also advocate to scale down the circle and bullet slightly. Michael The dash penetrating the inside of the circle is just an artifact of the fact that it's a rule, and...

Re: spacing of mathrm

="zedler I can apply manual spacings, the "\mathrm j" is stored in a macro anyway and the empty brackets I need only once. Perhaps you're interested, I've put together a collection showing how different math font setups behave in the above mentioned cases: http://www.hft.ei.tum.de/mz...

Re: spacing of mathrm

There's not much I can do about that---if you are using Times as the text font, then in text (j also touches! [though $(\mathrm j$ is worse, with more overlap]. I'm wondering how this arose. Assuming that you didn't really want \mathrm{(j ... I would guess that you are using roman letters as a set ...

Michael, the issue is not specific for the \text command: For instance, in standard LaTeX (without subscript correction) you can also write $a_\mathrm{b}$, whereas $a_\hat{b}$ would not work. That's why omitting the braces in these cases is dangerous and is never recommended. Maybe I should have wr...

Perhaps the last post by jautschbach was made having read only WaS' reply, not mine. I would like to point out that I never said anything about bad style. [In fact, in my opinion, it's crummy style to type extra braces when they are not needed. I always type \hat a, not \hat{a}, although I presume t...
