AMS Fonts v3

The new AMS Fonts v3 should be made available for downloading as a PCTeX package; collection includes both cm and ams fonts, with some redesigned glyphs (e.g., wider arrowheads in cmsy*.pfb).

Two Faults of DVI Viewer

The DVI viewer of v6 beta, dated 4 Jan 2008, exhibits two unpleasant faults: ---Magnification Tool: a black rectangle shows up first, then the underlying text is displayed; thereafter, a click on another part of screen momentarily produces two black rectangles, the previous one and the new one. ---S...

Update to Beta version dated January 4, 2008. If the .dvi file is exported
via PDF button in View; I see no difference between the two.

The 'Found' rectangle

The delicately outlined Found rectangle is barely visible and tedious to
spot in a long document; sometimes it is even hidden behind the Find
Dialog Box. Please, make it more distinctive so that it pops into view
immediately.

OK, thanks. It works, but I find it a bit inconvenient to have to click out of the dvi window, and then back again just to stop the typesetter. I found Help>PCTeX v6 Guide>Menus>Typeset unhelpful, since the description of 'Cancel Typesetting' function, quote, Depending on the particular document bei...

Most of the time, after an error is encountered, the <Esc> Cancel Typesetting shortcut key of PCTeX v6 (Build Thu Apr 19 2007) does not work on two Win 2K Pro SP4 machines. Sometimes it does work, though, but I cannot figure out the exact circumstances, and this uncertainty is frustrating. It never ...

Scrolling of dvi files has improved lately, but still lags behind that of v5; in particular, it is coarse initially, and becomes finer after hitting 'u', 'd' keys. Sometimes the viewer opens up with the page displaced deep into the lower right corner of screen. In Editor, you might wish to add compl...

Is PCTeX v5.1 still being updated from time to time? Every four weeks or so the program prompts me to check for updates, but when I do, I am informed that "No updates are needed"; is this neccessary? On 21-Jan-2007, for the first time since October 2005, a single file, ptispecial.dll, was ...

I know that, but see no reason for such namings except possibly a weak copyright claim. Vertical scrolling of .dvi files has improved somewhat, but still lags behind that of v5, in particular: the action of Page Up/Page Down, Up Arrow/Down Arrow keys, Mouse Scroll Wheel is resolution dependent: (i) ...

Indeed it is; I got the Dec 27 update of PCTeX v6, and now IniTeX is running all right. However, note that while the directory \PCTeXv6\texmf-dist\fonts\type1\bluesky\latex lists 30-Aug-2006 14:33:54 10,010 lcircle1.pfb 30-Aug-2006 14:33:54 10,026 lcirclew.pfb in the directory \PCTeXv6\texmf-dist\fo...

I installed the Dec 19 v6 update smoothly, but the behavior described in earlier post "Three bugs in v6 Beta" changed little; the most severe bug is, of course, that initexing a local format file fails for the same reason as before (even though the correct Additional TeX Input path is give...

Three bugs in v6 beta

The following are some of the problems I have with PCTeX v6 (on two machines, Win 2K Pro SP4 with ATM De Luxe, Adobe PS printer driver v5, and HP Laserjet 5MP printer). (1) Initexing local format file In Settings > Directories... > Additional TeX Input, I enter the path to mylatex.tex, a local forma...

In a private email, WaS suggested to me to have a look at TeX/LaTeX 'soul' package (found at CTAN's tex/macros/latex/contrib/soul); the document soul.pdf is an elaborate description of the kerning problem, and its 'soul' solution.
