Post by PTIForAdmin »

New in this release:
  • * View Documentation (in Include Package, Package Manager) shows dvi files
    * Allow rt-click while editing to show edit options, and not just spell check options
    * Fixed Include Graphic to not show "reference" and "caption" when modifying an \includegraphic command
    * When the "View" ('T') icon is clicked, will show the correct view - dvi view in DVI mode and pdf view in PDF mode
    * INITeX fixed to not report missing files (e.g. texsys.aux) which are not missing
    * Added LaTeX Letter options helper
    * Fixed the LaTeX Letter.tex template
    * Fixed INITeX to be able to load a file found in the Additional TeX Input path
To download the latest changes: In PCTeX choose Help..Updates..Check for updates now

See the complete Release notes.

Indeed it is; I got the Dec 27 update of PCTeX v6, and now IniTeX is running all right.

However, note that while the directory

\PCTeXv6\texmf-dist\fonts\type1\bluesky\latex

lists

30-Aug-2006 14:33:54 10,010 lcircle1.pfb
30-Aug-2006 14:33:54 10,026 lcirclew.pfb

in the directory

\PCTeXv6\texmf-dist\fonts\tfm\public\latex

one finds

30-Aug-2006 14:33:54 820 lcircle10.tfm
30-Aug-2006 14:33:54 820 lcirclew10.tfm

a naming mismatch of long standing, which derails IniTex if those font
files are used (I assume TeX still adheres to the eight-dot-three convention).

This shouldn't affect INITeX, unless your format source file contains lcircle1 and lcirclew. The pfb file usage is resolved by the map file:

Code: Select all

texmf-dist/fonts/map/dvips/latex/latex-bsr.map:
...
lcircle10 LCIRCLE10 <lcircle1.pfb
lcirclew10 LCIRCLEW10 <lcirclew.pfb
...
TeX doesn't adhere to the 8.3 file naming scheme at this point.

I know that, but see no reason for such namings except possibly a
weak copyright claim.

Vertical scrolling of .dvi files has improved somewhat, but still lags
behind that of v5, in particular: the action of Page Up/Page Down, Up
Arrow/Down Arrow keys, Mouse Scroll Wheel is resolution dependent:

(i) it is coarse at initial 116 DPI resolution (2 or 7 key hits, 3 MSW clicks
scroll the page from top to bottom), jittery with MSW;

(ii) a couple of times change display resolution by hitting U/D keys, revert to
"initial" 120 DPI, and the scrolling becomes finer, much like in v5, but
MSW action is still somewhat jittery.

These file names are from the CTAN and TeX Live distributions. I think the name discrepancy is a just a holdover from the days of 8.3 file names.

We've noticed this also. We'll look into improving the page painting speed which should reduce the jittery movement.
